RSS Feeds more popular than Breast FeedI was just checking some wordtracker reports today and it turns out that searches for “RSS feeds” are almost 3 times as popular as searches for “breast feed.” According to the WordTracker report, which was just a simple search of the top 100 terms related to “feed”, RSS Feeds counts in at 945. It wasn’t until position number five that the term “breast feed” appeared. I thought “wow, there is no way RSS feeds are more popular than breast-feeding!” Doing a WordTracker keyword search on “breast feeding” calmed me down as the term counted in at 2946, three times more popular than “RSS feeds.” Still, searches related to RSS are growing at a rapid rate. In the top three (along with the first-term mentioned above) were “RSS Feeds filetype:rss”, the lowercase “rss feeds”, and the ever so popular “Free RSs Feeds.” After position number five (which was for breast feed) there were three more RSS related terms. It wasn’t until the keyword phrase “feed my frankenstein” in position number nine that we got away from RSS. Even so, the majority of the next 80 keyword results were related to RSS or XML in some fashion. The point I am trying to make here is that I was doing keyword research on the term “feed”, and according to Wordtracker, RSS currently rules the communal share of mind when it comes to relational keywords. Who knows what the relationship was to the term a decade ago? In contrast, “feeding” brings up mostly a top 100 list related to relational terms such as breast or breasts. So while breast-feeding may long rule the roost in its domain, it won’t be long before the RSS feed becomes just as popular in its own domain. Keyword search was performed today (12/8/2006). According to Wordtracker, data is: “Taken from all Dogpile & Metacrawler queries over the last 90 days.” Leave a Reply |
