Cooler than RSS news feedsWhen I started doing the administration on KickRSS.com I figured nearly all of the user accounts would be for RSS newsfeeds. While the majority of feeds are delivering news there are several that I found to be really cool and they may come in handy for you. Here is a list of “other than news” RSS feeds that I think are “cool”: Online Coupon Codes: there are a few different accounts are here on KickRSS.com that are collecting and mixing feed data for coupon codes. online-coupon-codes currently only has one feed with information from a place called fatWallet. coupon codes has about six feeds with coupons I could see coming from Pizza Hut, Target, Home Depot, Amazon.com, Pottery Barn, and Sears. There are also coupon RSS feeds for grocery coupons, magazines, BMG music club, Disney, and Barnes & Noble. internet-coupons has some feeds with some coupons from Disney, Ann Taylor, Circuit City, and newegg.com, one of my favorite places to buy computer parts and electronics. GoDaddy-Hot-Deals currently just has one feed but I have to admit that I love many of the services at goDaddy. I use coupons for GoDaddy frequently so this is a good RSS feed for me to check regularly. The account for promotion deals has information and feeds from RBoffers.com, and most items looked like offers for free samples. DEALS as RSS feeds for coupons and promotion codes for items in Canada. Online coupon codes and related deals just rock via RSS. They are so much easier to use than going to visit a bunch of spammy web sites looking for coupons. Lost and Found Dogs: the feed for lost-dogs is a mix of RSS feeds focused on lost dogs. There are currently three feeds mixed and it looks like there is lots of data for both lost dogs and found dogs throughout the United States. Personally, I think this is a very cool use for RSS feeds. Kudos to all the dog lovers out there making sure our furry friends (and non-furry friends) find their homes, or a new home, if that’s the case. RSS Video: While everyone’s into Google video, YouTube, Revver, and other user generated video web sites, there is still some good video to be seen from USA Today, CNN, and other news networks. Video_RSS mixes several video feeds. Their user page is visited quite frequently and is very popular. Overall though I think the video RSS feeds still have a way to go. I’d love to see fresh daily video content from places like Maxim, Rolling Stone, CNet, ZDNet, ESPN, etc. One of the accounts I found while browsing, GgL-Video_RSS, has an RSS feed of Google popular videos. Does not look like anything is mixed in yet and the videos do not appear to be the same popular videos (a lot of non-English titles) I see when going directly to the Google video pages. Maybe they will add some more categories to the mix, giving this feed account more potential. Finding a Job: I did not realize people were using RSS feeds for job searching. There are a number of job related feeds on the Internet but once you found a job you like I guess you would delete or modify your RSS job feed mix. Nanny Jobs has only one feed on their account but it’s pretty self-explanatory in its description. San Diego Jobs has a couple of different feeds mixed together to provide a bunch of jobs in the area of San Diego, California. A cool job in San Diego would be feeding whales at Sea world. You’d probably have to get up pretty early in the morning, and I’d bet the job is smelly, but still seems like a cool job to me. The account for Job Search has a couple of tech related job feeds mixed together and so does NY Job Listings. The problem with Job RSS feeds is that I think most people would only use them temporarily. They would be great though for projects like webmasters wanted, programmers wanted, or even other services. Basically, we as the consumer could post a job wanted description which would push out an RSS feed subscribed to by the people that could potentially provide those services. That is a cool use for RSS.
