2000 a day and counting

I was planning to post this last week but had not gotten around to it. I mentioned I would post when we hit 2000 visitors per day and by golly we hit it on 12 Mar 2007. Total count for that day was 2281 with 16 Mar 2007 being the second highest of the week at 2044 visitors.

About the same week I was noticing some real issues with mySQL and noticed it was failing at times. Was to be expected since I had not optimized anything lately. Today I updated all cron jobs to run a bit more spread apart in hopes of not taxing the server too much. Probably the biggest hog now is killing all the old content that is more than XX days (currently set to 30).

Still more work to do on mySQL and getting pages to load faster. Hopefully we’ll have that done soon. :-)

Update: of course moments after I wrote this MySQL crashed in KickRSS was not accessible until we reloaded the database. Turns out there is a problem with the .TMD table. Working on getting that repaired so RSS feeds can load more quickly.

Also changed up some of our Cron tasks in hopes of keeping them from overlapping and subsequently overtaxing the server. Thanks to those that have offered input as to how things are functioning in your part of the world.
